Ten on Tuesday: Random

Ten on Tuesday is hosted by Chelsea and these random questions were provided by her.

1. Who is your favorite talk show host?
Stephen Colbert.  I have the hugest nerd crush on him, I can’t help it.  I love Rove McManus.  He retired from his talk show back in 2009, but he’s actually popped up on some American talk shows since.

2. How do you style your hair on a daily basis?
I like to wash and sleep on my wash, cuz that’s how it curls the nicest.  I start off wearing it loose, but inevitably, I’ve gt to catch it and twist it up before it takes over the world.

3. If you were stuck in your bedroom for a week, what would you need in order to not go crazy?
My mobile, laptop and a few books, I’d be good.  I broke my foot two years ago and ended up spending almost two weeks in my bedroom, I survived with DVDs and my laptop.

4. What are the best non-reality shows on television?
Castle, HIMYM, New Girl, Big Bang Theory, Parks and Rec, Community, 30 Rock.

5. Do you mow your own lawn and clean your own house?
Condo fees cover the cost of our lawn care, but have to clean the house like a sucker.  I’m okay with that, cuz I am particular about how things are cleaned.  But I do hope to have a cleaning person come in every other week in the future.  My parents have had a cleaning person on and off and I know it’s a big help.

6. As an adult, what is the best part of summer?
Drinks on the patio, BBQs in friends and family’s backyards, cottage weekends, longer days, more sun.

7. If you could ask one celebrity one question, who and what would you ask?
I don’t really know…

8. Post a picture.

9. How many books do you read a year?
It depends.  Sometimes I stumble across a series and can read ten books in two weeks.  Other years, I don’t find anything too interesting and I may only read four or five books.

10. Which national chain makes the best delivery pizza?
Hmmm, I do like the generic Pizza Pizza.  They do whole grain, thin crust pizza and they don’t make it taste like crap.  But it doesn’t compare to real pizza.

Ten on Tuesday

I should be doing a hundred million things.  Instead, I’m taking a ten minute brain break to blog.  Alliteration for the win.

Ten on Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Chelsea and this week’s questions were provided by former blogger, Ashley.

1. What TV commercial do you think is the most annoying?
ALL OF THEM.  Okay, that’s extreme.  But I will say cleaning, cooking and household product commercials really irritate me.  They’re so stereotypical and sexist in their portrayal of women’s roles it makes me sick.  There is this toilet paper ad that says ‘Women LOVE to touch’, and then shows all these close ups of a woman’s hands touching an elderly person, her kids, sweaters in a clothing store, rubbing the back of her husband’s neck.  The stereotypical portrayal makes me rage like you wouldn’t believe.  Or, maybe you would, seeing how passionate I am about that ad.

2. What is the weirdest gift you have ever received?
An opened box of cereal from a guy on the street. Oh, he also would draw us pictures.

3. What is a song you thought you knew the words and then later found out you were wrong?
Hmmmm, I don’t know if there are any.  I’ve trained myself to learn and memorize songs fairly quickly, cuz of my music background.

4. What are you most looking forward to this month?
Well… My birthday’s in a few days.  So I’m looking forward to going to my favourite pub and seeing friends and family and trying hard not to think about the stress that is everything else in my life right now.   My grandmother’s 80th birthday is also this month.  That’s kinda a big deal, I reckon.  There is a long weekend later this month and that also marks the start of my office’s summer hours.  Thank god.  I also get to go back to placement, but it’s also bittersweet, as I’ll be finishing placement this month, too.  Busy May ahead.

5. What is your favorite kitchen appliance? Explain.
My coffee maker.  It makes my life blood.  Need I explain further?

6. If you could have a gift card to anywhere right now, where would you choose? Why?
A giftcard for how much? Does Air Canada do giftcards?  That or Indigo (book store) or an electronics store…or Home Depot.

7. What are your favorite pizza toppings?
This is my favourite pizza: Pineapple, green olives, red onions and BBQ sauce.  It sounds weird, but it’s amazing.

8. Name something you’re thankful for aside from obvious answers (i.e. family, job, faith, etc.).
Coffee, wine, my blackberry.

9. What was your least favorite rule growing up?
Wow, I can’t think of one.  We didn’t really have a lot of rules out side of ‘be decent human beings’.  My parents expected us to watch out for ourselves and each other, lend a hand, be respectful to others… So I don’t think this applies.

10. If you could train your pet to do one thing, what would it be? Example, “Weego” from the Bud Light commercial.
I dunno.  My dog’s pretty smart.  Haha.  I would love to be able to teach her that other dogs are allowed to walk on our street without her barking at them.  And I wish she’d learn what ‘Stop squeaking that infernal toy, I have a migraine’ means.  She’s a fairly well-behaved dog.

…Oh, maybe I’d train her to stop eating my Blackberry.  That would be good.

Ten on Tuesday

It’s Tuesday!  Which means time for Ten on Tuesday, hosted by the lovely Chelsea.

1. Would you rather give up pedicures or flat/curling irons?
I hate having people touch my feet, so I would easily give up pedicures.  And my hair is wildly curly, so I need to be able to use my flat iron from time to time to make it look presentable.

2. Does your middle name have a family meaning?
Yes, it indeed does.  I love my middle name, it’s a family name.  Then again, my whole name is a mashup of family names, as are my brothers’ names.  It’s kinda what we do.

3. Do you like to sneeze?
Umm, not really?  And I can never seem to sneeze just once.
4. Do you think kids should need to learn cursive?
I don’t know.  I was never really ‘taught’ cursive (we’re talking penmanship, not swearing, right?).  I was self-taught because my grade three teacher decided she was finished teaching us things when she wasn’t.  I’ve survived just fine not knowing how to do it ‘properly’.
5. When you go to the beach for the day, what do you take?
Chair, towel, sunscreen, water (Brittos for beaches in Oz), sunnies, a book and probably music.

6. Which decade had the best music?
80s and 90s.  Sorry, it’s a nostalgia thing for me.  Deal with it.

7. Are you a good hand-shaker?
Hi, I work in PR.  I need to be a good hand-shaker.  Just don’t touch me otherwise.  Personal space, people.

8. Do you have a go-to meal for when you are at a restaurant and you can’t decide?
It depends on the restaurant, really.

9. Do you have slippers?
Yeah, I’m always cold, feet included.  I have a pair of purple fuzzy slippers (hot, I know!) and a pair of SoftMocs.

10. Are you easily grossed out?
Absolutely.
